Woodthorpe Hall Weddings

Woodthorpe Hall is a private 17th century country house set in 2.5 acres of spectacular formal gardens in a very secluded corner of North Derbyshire on the edge of the Peak District, but conveniently close to Sheffield (South Yorkshire), and Chesterfield (north Derbyshire). The team here at Woodthorpe Hall have been holding weddings since 2007 and bring a wealth of experience to support you to create your perfect day.  We offer the gardens as a venue for your special day, giving you the choice of marquee style, catering arrangements and any other service you may require. 

We no longer offer to hold a legal ceremony here, but we are able to offer an unusual purpose-made location for any non-legal ceremony in our Cider Press. This is a stone open fronted building incorporating a 19th century cider press still very much in use. 80 guests can be seated under a covered area with ample extra space for guests willing to stand.  Alternatively, couples may choose to have their ceremony in the Belvedere, an oak timber framed structure with stunning views of the house.

The gardens provide a superb backdrop for your photographs and can accommodate a marquee reception for up to 150 guests. We are also able to offer free basic camping space for any guests who wish to stay after the festivities. (This includes caravans/camper vans).

Our aim is to support you to arrange your day in whatever way you want and although we can advise on suppliers, the choice is always yours. We consider very careful and detailed planning is essential for the smooth running of your event and offer every assistance with this. Each event is individually tailored to your wishes and we are happy to accommodate any more unusual requests. In the past, we have hosted weddings with Chinese dragons, full brass bands, casinos and even Medieval reenactments. 

We hold events with exclusive use for you and your guests, allowing access during the previous week for preparations. As we are an outdoor venue, we open for weddings from May until September and we only hold 8 weddings a year to ensure that the garden always looks stunning.

Each wedding comes with the services of an experienced wedding coordinator to help with planning and 'behind the scenes' support on the day as well as 4 members of staff.  The garden is equipped with a sound system throughout so that your guests can enjoy the music and atmosphere while exploring the extensive grounds. Fairy lights and flaming torches, which are lit as the sun begins to set, give a magical feel to the gardens.

Should your guests need to rest their dancing feet, garden furniture provides comfort and beautiful views of the house.

Alongside this, luxury and disabled-friendly toilets, catering tents, fridges for chilling drinks and a wide selection of garden games are also included.

Reception only hire - £4500 (This includes all of the services mentioned above)

Ceremony and Reception hire - £5000 (This includes all of the services mentioned above plus a bespoke ceremony by a celebrant of your choice )

Venue Capacity - up to 150 guests

Catering - Couples are free to choose their own caterers

Marquee - Couples can choose their own providers, Sperry Tents, Tipis, Pod tents and Frame tents are all very popular

Bar - A bar and bar staff can be hired at additional cost (drinks are provided by the couple and all proceeds from bar sales are returned to the couple) and the bar is licensed to run until midnight.

Corkage - Woodthorpe Hall do not charge corkage

Child Friendly - Yes, children are very welcome and highchairs can be provided on request

Accommodation - The camping field is available free of charge

Transport - Minibuses and Taxis are popular, although we recommend ordering your taxis in advance.

Live Music - Yes, we love to have live bands but they need to have completed their final set by 11pm

DJs - DJs are very welcome too.  We do ask that they turn their music down to 'garden level' at 11pm, but the dancing can continue until midnight.

Silent Discos - We LOVE a silent disco and this means that guests can have their headphones on full blast past our 11pm cut off.

Venue closes - We close at 00.45
